She Almost Lived

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, and when her life was over, there was still much she wanted to do. These are really difficult words to imagine. Who wants to finish their time here on earth and not have lived well? The reality is, we are each moving closer to our expiration date, every second. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not promised but today, it is yours.

There are just so many distractions. The kids, the car, the spouse , the dog, oh and the friends. Plus the smartphone.  And before you know it, you look at the clock and your day is over. Unlived. Where did the time go?

Our choice in this very minute lays the trajectory for our future. What will we do with that choice? Helen Keller says, life is either a daring adventure or nothing, and Emerson notes, make the most of yourself , for that is all there is of you. Your power is in the present , right now. Don’t wait until tomorrow to live, tomorrow is not a certainty. Do it now, today.

This is as easy as 1,2,3, first, follow your heart. Not your spouses heart or your mothers heart , your heart. Your heart knows you better than anyone. What is that one thing your heart is telling you to do today? Do it. Just do it. No one is going to come along and make it easy for you. No knight in shiny armor is going to come rescue you from this mess. You are your rescuer. You can be the one to save you. Wow. Just wow. Do it.

The path  you wish for may be the path less traveled. Thats ok, blaze your own trail. This takes confidence and courage. It is there , you have it, dig deep and find it. Then go do that thing you have tucked in the back of your mind. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. It’s not coming. The best moment is here. Right now.

We know what happens to people who stay in the middle of the road, they get run over. (Bevan) Don’t be this person. Sit down now and write down the first thing that comes to your mind, when you think of living your best life. Then go do it. It may take a while, the best things usually do. Thats ok, you have a while. It may take a few risks, that’s ok too, you are not afraid. You will pick up the confidence needed to complete the journey, as you pass each mile marker. One thing I know for sure, you wont gain mileage towards your dream, sitting on your sofa. It requires you to get up, engage and move forward.

Try to tell one close friend your plan. This helps it become real for you, and it helps you to be accountable to someone. I know I never want to be known as the person who said they were going to do something, and didn’t. If I say it, it will be done. I may have to move mountains, and it may be harder and longer than I ever imagined, but it will become a reality. The hardest things are the easiest in the beginning. Begin now. Do not get to the end of your life and leave one little bit of a dream unlived. Go do it now. Live that dream in the back of your mind. Move it to the front and make it a priority.
